Where I've Been:
My full-time employment is currently as a solutions provider for 3-D forensic surveying and scene documentation for all crime scene types, general documentation, shooting scenes, crash sites, fire scenes, post-blast sites, and everything else in-between. Our instruments are also used for documentation of schools and sites for pre-event planning and critical incident management.

In March of 2016, I concluded a 15+ year run of forensic services split between two different American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) accredited laboratories.

My first forensic assignment began in January of 2001 with the Kansas City (MO) Police Crime Laboratory, as a CSI in their Crime Scene Investigation section, I was an active staffer in 2003 when we (CSI) first became a part of the accredited laboratory and I worked as a part of the document revision group, preparing our section protocols and procedures for the ASCLD/LAB accreditation process.

In 2008, I was hired as section supervisor by the Johnson County (KS) Crime Laboratory (JCCL) for the Sheriff's Office. At the section's peak, I supervised seven Crime Scene Investigators and as many as 25 transient members of our laboratory as they responded into the field as needed for manpower shortages, field searches, or section-specific expertise. I had as many as 5 other lab members participating in the bloodstain pattern analysis program, all of the CSI section working also as Forensic Photographers, and half of the CSI section working as shooting reconstructionists -- all three aspects of our laboratory operation that I supervised directly.

At the time of my hiring in Johnson County, the laboratory was accredited under the ASCLD/LAB Legacy program. In 2009, the Crime Scene Investigation section joined the accredited laboratory as we elevated labwide from Legacy to the International (ISO) program.

Who I Am:
I am a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst. I spent from 2008 to 2016 as a part of an accredited laboratory management team and have nearly 10 years of forensic supervisory experience.

I have worked thousands of crime scenes, hundreds of homicides, thousands of violent crime scenes and case investigations. In Johnson County, there was heavy engagement between the field operators and the detective units that we served (19 different agencies) and as Crime Scene Investigation supervisor, I was heavily involved in the planning of response to follow-up crime scenes and search warrant execution.

My training includes extensive aspects of all sections of crime lab operations. I have worked on integrating the following laboratory sections into field operations and my knowledge base has and continues to remain current in the following sections:
  • Trace Evidence and Materials Analysis
  • Biology
  • DNA
  • Drug Chemistry
  • Chemistry for Unknown Material Identification
  • Toxicology
  • Fire Debris Analysis
  • Video/Cell Phone/Digital Evidence
  • Firearms & Toolmarks
  • Fingerprint Identification & Latent Prints
  • Footwear
  • Photography
  • Crime Scene Investigation

Please visit my CV, linked below. The sum of my experience to date speaks for itself. I have training and experience in most aspects of practical crime lab forensics and I have worked frequent, practical casework involving:
  • Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
  • Shooting Incident Reconstruction
  • Fingerprint Development and Detection Methods
  • Alternate Light Source Use for Trace, Biological, and Fingerprint Evidence
  • 3-D Laser Scanning and Forensic Surveying
  • Crime Scene Investigation
I enjoy engaging with working professionals of all kinds...do not hesitate to write with questions about how we can work together.

Thanks!
